Angel Vergara awarded honorary distinction

News content

The Kingdom of Spain awarded Angel Vergara an honorary distinction for his extraordinary artistic career, especially in the field of painting.

The Royal and American Order of Isabella the Catholic (in Spanish Orden de Isabel la Católica) was created on March 14, 1815, by King Ferdinand VII of Spain, in honor of Queen Isabella I of Castile, in order to "reward the unacrimony of loyalty to Spain and the merits of Spanish and foreign citizens for the sake of the Nation and especially in those exceptional services rendered in favour of the prosperity of the American and ultramarine territories. " The Order was reorganised by royal decree on 26 July 1847, as the modern "Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic" with a broader focus than the Americas.
