The extensive collection of works on paper by the painter Raimund Girke (1930 - 2002), which was donated to the museum by the artist's widow, Karin Girke, is on display for the first time. It was selected by the then director in 2022 to complement Karin Girke's previous donation (2007, six paintings from 1956 to 2000); an exhibition of these works followed in 2009.
In the diversity of their materials and techniques, Girke's works on paper form a completely independent body of work, which the artist pursued with great intensity both in parallel with his paintings on canvas and independently of them. Of the 32 new works in the collection (all reproduced in colour in an accompanying publication), 25 are visible in the exhibition.
