To Breathe - Sunhyewon
From September 3 to October 19, 2025, internationally acclaimed artist Kimsooja presents To Breathe - Sunhyewon at the historic Sunhyewon in Seoul’s Samcheong-dong. Once the residence of SK Group’s founder, this remarkable Hanok becomes the stage for the inaugural Sunhyewon Art Project 1.0.
At the heart of the exhibition is a new site-specific installation, where Kimsooja covers the floor of Gyeongheunggak with mirrors. This gesture transforms the traditional architecture into an immersive, luminous environment in which space, light, and the visitor’s own presence become inseparable. It is the first time the artist’s To Breathe series is realized within a Hanok, deepening the dialogue between contemporary art and Korean heritage.
The exhibition further brings together a selection of Kimsooja’s most emblematic works, including her colorful Bottari bundles, porcelain Moon Jar-inspired sculptures, and delicate panels pierced with light. Through these pieces, she reflects on themes of migration, memory, home, and the universal bonds that connect us all.
By weaving together tradition and contemporaneity, To Breathe - Sunhyewon invites visitors into a contemplative space where art, history, and humanity resonate in harmony.
