Per Kirkeby at "Baksteen/Brick" in Kunsthal Kade, Amersfoort

新闻內容

In juxtaposition with some design drawings and sketches from Kröller Müller's collection, from which his name as an abstract Nordic painter seems to emerge, Kunsthal Kade built four sculptures with local bricks: London from 1986 and Paris I, Paris II and Paris III from 2017. The latter three have been built before, during the last exhibition during Kirkeby's life dedicated to his brick sculptures, in Beaux-Arts de Paris; London was shown in the Hayward Gallery, Museum Jorn and Axel Vervoordt Gallery. As was always the case, this time the local brick and local masons were relied upon, as a social act in the spirit of Fluxus, but also in that of European minimalism, and in that of the dialogue between looking and experiencing – as the sculptures can be walked through or touched; or used as a bench.

Kunsthal Kade will also show the work Muro by Bosco Sodi. This work was first erected at Washington Square Park in New York in the early morning on September 7th for one day, at the end of which visitors were invited to remove one timber, each one sealed by the artist with his signature, to take home with them. In Amersfoort, visitors are invited to do the same throughout the duration of the exhibition. Muro invokes diverse metaphors that become activated by the public as they collectively disassemble the wall. In doing so, Sodi’s Muro subverts the primary function of a wall as a device of separation by empowering the community to remove this physical barrier and its inherent symbolism.
