New exhibition: Marco Tirelli

新闻內容

Axel Vervoordt Gallery is pleased to present a new exhibition by Marco Tirelli. The exhibition showcases recent developments of the artist’s quest that began in the turbulent 1970s and has resulted in works of various forms and techniques — airbrush, stencils, ink and charcoal on canvas, lithography, and photography.

Tirelli’s oeuvre can be viewed as an encyclopaedic inventory, an alchemical laboratory, or a vocabulary of structures — possibilities developed in the human mind, as a result of the dialogue between light and shadow.

Tirelli grew up in the Swiss Institute in Rome, where he experienced the magnificent library and a garden in which natural cycles succeeded each other. Outside were the years of La Dolce Vita, the years of unbridled creativity; inside the walls, Tirelli found peace and tranquility.

Inspired by these encounters, Tirelli creates images that distil meaning. They confront the viewer with a certain chaos, ideas of vanitas, or the uncontrollability of technological utopias. By their presence, they confront the viewer; enraptured by cultural and art historical references, and the idea of infinity. The works have no titles, no impetus for interpretation. There is a freedom to dissect and decipher, to categorise and classify, to question the hidden meanings of the image.
