Masterpiece London

Royal Hospital Chelsea, London

Fair description

Axel Vervoordt’s presentation will feature furniture pieces by José Zanine Caldas. The work of Zanine Caldas is a testament to the power of natural wood and it’s material beauty.
A pioneer in the field of forest preservation and ecology, he wrote several essays on the relationship between Brazil’s forests and its people, drawing inspiration and knowledge from architectural history, philosophy, and local folk tales.

The Frank Wlasek collection, created by José Zanine Caldas in the late 1960s, contains the largest amount of custom-made furniture and sculptures by the architect-designer ever seen and which has been intact up to this day. More than thirty pieces comprise the collection. Highlights range from monumental dining tables composed of entire tree trunks to a large series of Caldas’ iconic trunk chairs and other sculptural masterpieces.

Our presentation also includes works and paintings by Yun Hyong-keun, Masatoshi Masanobu, Yuko Nasaka, Takis, Ryuji Tanaka, Jef Verheyen and Fahrelnissa Zeid.
