In 1962, Masanobu began painting with enamel rather then oil on canvas, which allowed the artist to experiment much more freely with movement in line. Rendered in enamel, the forms take on a hard, distinctly contemporary edge, evoking graffiti and its experiments at the boundary between the written and painted line.
Excerpt of Ming Tiampo’s text in the monograph ‘Masatoshi Masanobu’ published on the occasion of the artist’s solo exhibition at Axel Vervoordt Gallery in 2017.

Among our archaeological highlights is this large vessel in layered alabaster from Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, XXIst - XXVth Dynasty, ca. 1070 - 656 B.C.
