Fair description
Axel Vervoordt is pleased to participate in the 2026 edition of BRAFA.
Our presentation features artworks that take a playful approach to light, form, and the creative act. Two works in particular capture the range of light’s potential, the different moods it can convey throughout the year, and the beauty that may be found in all of them—Jef Verheyen’s solemn Natte Zielen, painted on All Souls Day in 1979, and Rik Wouters' Printemps, a joyful depiction of spring in a typical Flemish landscape from 1913.
Renato Nicolodi’s Hybris Babel provides an intriguing contrast by encapsulating and radiating both light and shadow in its towering, architectural presence, which explores the fragile balance between humanity’s ambition and impermanence. Ann Leda Shapiro’s Three Trees with Green Branches is a shamanistic microcosm, revealing the universal life force and the symbiotic relationship between mind, body, and nature through fluid dots and lines.
Works by William Turnbull, Bosco Sodi, Sadaharu Horio, Tsuyoshi Maekawa, Angel Vergara, and Shiro Tsujimura convey a spontaneous sense of artistic creativity free from obligation. A painting by Ida Barbarigo is a depiction of the unseen energy and positive vibes of Paris’ tourist crowd in her instantly recognisable, lyrical painting style that borders on abstraction and figuration. Shi Zhiying’s Gem & Mirror No. 30, Jaromir Novotny’s Untitled, and Otto Boll’s sculptural work show a more restrained approach, acting as examinations of balance, rhythm, and the state of existence of objects.
An elegant Egyptian fragmentary statuette of Padihormedenou, a dignitary who lived during the Saite Period (Dynasty XXVI, ca. 664-525 B.C.), is also shown, as a testament to humanity’s timeless search for harmony, proportion, and legacy.
We look forward to welcoming you at Stand 35.
