Lars Piselé

Inspiratum Scholarship 2009

The Belgian tenor Lars Piselé could be heard in recent seasons with the Vlaamse Opera as Spoletta in ‘Tosca’ by Puccini and as Tchaplitski in ‘Pikovaja Dama’ by Tchaikovski. In the Koninklijke Muntschouwburg in Brussels he performed in the role of Ernst Röbl in Frühlingserwachen, an opera-creation by the Belgian composer Benoit Mernier  (director Vincent Boussard). With this production Lars Piselé celebrated his début at the Opéra of Strasbourg (OnR).

At the Musica Antiqua Festival (Bruges) he contributed to the Baroque Opera “Antiochus en Stratonica” by Graupner (summer 2010). Recently he sang Dr Blind in the successful Fledermaus production by the Belgian director Waut KOEKEN with OnR. In February 2012 he was heard in the world creation of  “Sybil et les Silhouettes” at the Opéra de Wallonie, Liège.

Lars Piselé obtained his diploma ‘master of music’ from the Koninklijk Vlaams Muziekconservatorium of Antwerp. He subsequently studied with Mya Besselink at the Maastricht conservatory and the Operastudio Vlaanderen. He participated in various mastervlasses, among others with Anthony Rolphe Johnson, Guy de Mey, Rudolph Janssen and Claude Coppens. During his studies Lars interpreted roles in operas by Pergolesi (‘Lo frate ‘nnamorato’ and ‘La serva padrona’), Cesti (‘Orontea’), Cavalieri (‘Il rappresentatione di anima e di corpo’) and Mozart (‘Così fan tutte’).
Shortly after he joined the Operastudio Vlaanderen where he sang the role of Tirsis in ‘Diana’ by Keiser, as well as the role of Major in ‘Albert Herring’ by Britten, the latter directed by Guy Joosten.  He made his debut at the Vlaamse Opera in September 2005 as Perückenmacher in ‘Ariadne auf Naxos’ by Strauss. In February 2005 he made his debut at the  Muntschouwburg Brussels in the role of Ferrando in ‘Così fan tutte’ by Mozart. He also collaborated on productions with Zomeropera Alden-Biesen (specifically in adaptations of Mozarts operas “Bastien und Bastienne” and ‘Die Entführung aus dem Serail’). ‘Bastien und Bastienne’ was also reprised for the Festival van Vlaanderen (OdeGand in 2009).
As a soloist he regulalry collaborates with orchestral masses by Mozart, Haydn en Schubert, as well as to various passions, oratoria and cantata. He was heard at the Benoit-happening in de Singel, the Festival van Vlaanderen, l’Eté Mosan and the Festival des moines des Vaux de Cernay (France) and collaborated in various recordings for Klara and Musique 3.

As a soloist he has sung under conductors such as Florian Heyerick, Patrick Peire, Koen Kessels, Frans Dubois, Ed Spanjaard and Louis Devos.  During the Mozart year 2006 he sang the Krönungsmesse with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège conducted by Louis Langrée (Festival Mozart, Liège) and the Mass in c minor with the Limburg Orkest (Paleis voor Schone Kunsten, Brussels). With the Orkest der Lage Landen he undertook a tour witj the  Carmina Burana. Lars Piselé is also very active as a lied singer. On his repertoire are lieder by Schumann, Debussy, Brahms, Beethoven, Benoit and Pfitzner.
