TEFAF 2016

11.03.2016 - 20.03.2016/General
TEFAF 2016
Bastet Sarcophagus, Bronze, Egypt, Late Period, XXVIth - XXXth Dynasty, 664 - 332 B.C
Along with Jiro Yoshihara and Shozo Shimamoto, the Japanese painter Kazuo Shiraga was one of the founding members of the avant-garde Gutai movement in Japan in 1954. The group sought to create a new art that was "never known until now”.  At about the same time in Europe, Heinz Mack and Otto Piene formulated the beginning of ZERO as "a zone of silence and of new possibilities". Their artistic program mainly consisted of the recognition that light is a leading principle of life. A captivating alabaster sculpture by Anish Kapoor honours the same idea.
Additionally, we will present a large collection of archaeological highlights such as a fragment of a monumental male standing figure and an exceptional ancient Egyptian Bastet sarcophagus.
We invite you to come and discover these and other interesting works at our stand 424.
