Among the archaeological highlights we present a white marble sculpture depicting a togatus, that is, one who is wearing a toga and has civilian status. The toga seen here is draped in the same way as those seen in reliefs decorating the Ara Pacis Augustae, erected in Rome between 14 and 9 B.C.

In 1961 Uecker joins the Düsseldorf-based ZERO movement. From the beginning, Uecker is very much intrigued by the medium of light. This work from 1967 (Lichtscheibe) testifies to this study of optical phenomena, kinetic structures and oscillation. Uecker investigates how to actively integrate the viewer and influence the visual process.

The narrative of Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner  in many ways epitomizes the development of the Brazilian design industry in the 1950s and '60s as it grew from a rarified activity among a cultural elite into a mass produced industry that crossed national borders. In a setting dominated by a library designed by Sérgio Rodrigues, ambassador of Brazilian modernism, the furniture of Eisler and Hauner speaks for its own. Sérgio Rodrigues also briefly served as a director at Móveis Artesanal, the furniture shop run by Carlo Hauner.

Axel Vervoordt is participating at Masterpiece London, which takes place from 28 June (Preview) through 5 July 2017 at The Royal Hospital Chelsea in London.
